Quote1 "THRILLING ADVENTURES THROUGH TIME AND SPACE!" Quote2

Time Breaker is a comic book that exist in the icosahedron reality in the Night Springs episode of the same name. Similarly to the Time Breaker video game in Shawn Ashmore's home reality, the comic book narrates events occurring in other realities. More specifically, it follows Ashmore as he arrives at the Ripple Effect Corporation headquarters and meets with a variant of the red-headed woman, who explain him the nature of the multiverse and the origin of his nemesis, Door.

History[]

While traversing the Oceanview Hotel, Shawn Ashmore found a copy of the comic near a Lumivista TV in the Entertainment Lobby and expressed his surprise as he did not know Poison Pill Entertainment was also making a comic based on the Time Breaker video game, though he then realized the studio may not even exist in that reality. Regardless, he found the idea of being in a comic amusing. Not long after, Ashmore traveled to the reality featured in this comic and live the events depicted in its pages.

Plot[]

Shawn Ashmore has arrived to another reality. However, he feels that something is different, as if he was still yet moving, with his thoughts "flowing free like text read out alike". Finding himself on a corridor with the Ripple Effect Corporation logo, Ashmore turns around to find the red-headed woman he had previously met. She tells him that, after he was pulled away by Door, she never expected to see him again. Ashmore explains that he reached that place by focusing on her when he entered the vortex, to her surprise. The red-headed woman gives him a tour of the REC headquarters, located on Night Springs City. Ashmore expresses his surprise that the plot of the video game he was working in had become real, to which the red-headed woman explains that the concepts of real and not real exist side-by-side in the multiverse, with echoes flowing through it like "currents in a cosmic ocean", a concept she refers to as the "Sea of Night".

She further explains that the different parallel versions of them are linked by the energies that ripple through realities. Giving an example, she says that while a version of her dies on an explosion of dangerous energy, another one gains superpowers, and yet another meets an "alien guardian angel", or that in another reality, as Ashmore said, they are just characters on a video game. Ashmore then asks why Door is after him. Claiming that there are legends about him going further than they can trace, the red-headed woman explains that the man who would become Door once found an opening to a "horrifying parallel reality" which consumed him and gave him access to all other realities. However, the feedback loop killed all other versions of him. She further explains that, for reasons unknown to them, Door sees Ashmore and the versions of him as a threat, which is why he has been killing the actor's other selves and bringing them back as Time Breakers. While at first the REC believed that Branch was his main objective, she is now convinced that he is after Ashmore.

Ashmore asks her what can he do to help. The red-headed woman tells him that Door is leaving more and more dead realities in his wake. While Ashmore tries to tell her that he is just an actor, she tells him that he has traveled through realities with greater accuracy than anyone she had ever seen, including Door. She also explains that while she theorized that finding the place that created him might be the key to killing him, the REC was never able to do it, but Ashmore might be able to. After she takes him to a Lumivista TV, Ashmore asks her if there was something between her and Branch, but she explains that what he believes he is feeling is just an echo of some other version of them. As Ashmore tries to ask her something, the red-haired woman anticipates him by saying, "You'll come back for me?" and then adding, "Maybe." Ready to continue his journey, the actor asks the red-headed woman to wish him luck, but she states that luck is just "an echo of an event carried over from another reality". Now an REC agent, Ashmore travels to another reality, focusing on the darkness, the entropy, and Door, the Master of Many Worlds.

Trivia[]

  • Door's possible backstory closely mirrors that of Martin Hatch from Quantum Break, described in the "Untitled Note" Document.

"Once - from your perspective, a long time ago, although time no longer has such meaning to me - I too came in contact with a time machine. In my case, it was not a manmade device, but a natural one, in a cave. It should come as no surprise, really, that such things exist, much like natural nuclear reactors do exist, such as the now defunct ones at Oklo, Africa. ... And in time, I too lost control and became a shifter, became at once everything and nothing, was everywhere and nowhere, died countless deaths and was still alive, my every probability, every possibility happening at once."[1]

Behind the Scenes[]

  • The comic book was illustrated by Christopher Ward.[2]
