Possessed Ravens Attacking Alan.

Ravens, commonly known as Birds, are enemies in Alan Wake.

Just like their human counterparts, some ravens were possessed by The Dark Presence. While they aren't very dangerous individually, they have strength in numbers. Ravens attack in flocks and can pose a real threat, especially on narrow mountain paths or when facing other Taken. They have been seen destroying helicopters by flying into the rotors.

Ravens are difficult to hit with conventional weaponry but are incredibly sensitive to light and so can be damaged by pointing the any lightsource at them. They can also die faster when exposed to the boosted beam of a flashlight or a shot from a flare gun.

Alan Wake's American Nightmare introduced an enemy called the Birdman, which can transform into a flock of ravens to flee or close distance.

Behind the Scenes[]

  • The Ravens were one of several types of taken animals which were planned for the game, alongside Bears and Wolves. However, only the Ravens made it to the final game, one of the reasons being the inspiration from Hitchcock's famous movie "The Birds".
  • In the E3 2008 gameplay of Alan Wake, the Ravens were shown to attack by swooping in set arcs as opposed to the final game in which they are homing in on the player when they attack.
