New York City is a city in New York, United States; serving as the primary setting in Control and a prominent location in the Remedy Connected Universe. The city was founded in 1624 and later developed into one of the most populous cities in the world.
Beneath the city is a Place of Power, a location that has been acted upon by paranatural forces. The Federal Bureau of Control investigated this and found a skyscraper that inhabited the extra-dimensional forces. The FBC converted this building into their headquarters, known as the Oldest House. All records of Altered World Events and various Altered Items and Objects of Power are held here.
In 2013, the Cult of the Word began ritualistic killings in worship of the missing novelist Alan Wake and his "Alex Casey" books. It was here that Alan, from the Dark Place, made contact to the real world through Overlaps. In 2019, the Oldest House was invaded by a paranatural force called the Hiss.
