The Lake House is the second expansion for Alan Wake 2. It was released on October 22, 2024.
Synopsis[]
The expansion focuses on the Lake House, a clandestine research facility on the shores of Cauldron Lake used by the Federal Bureau of Control to study the paranatural effects of the lake and the Dark Presence within. The expansion is set parallel to the events of the main game and focuses on the perspective of Kiran Estevez in the leadup to Return 4: No Chance.
Plot[]
On September 14 2023, Investigations lead agent Kiran Estevez and her team arrive at Cauldron Lake in response to an AWE alert from the FBC monitoring station over the site. Upon reaching the locked gate leading to the Lake House research facility and receiving no response over the intercom, she orders her team to secure a perimeter and proceeds alone to the Lake House proper to see if the staff there could provide backup.

Trivia[]
- Aside from accessing the content through the main menu, The Lake House Expansion can be accessed while playing the base game during the events of Return 6.
- The Lake House has its own save slots, which will not overwrite the base game save slots or the save slot for the expansion Night Springs.
- If the Lake House expansion is started through the main story, extra scenes of Estevez recounting the events would be featured. These extra scenes would occur before and after the actual Lake House Expansion's content.
- Passwords in this DLC that include a date can be input in both European and American format. For example, the first password to unlock the way into the facility, which uses July 18th in its passcode, can be entered as 071838, or 180738.
- The names of the Marmont’s two research projects, Rhamnus and Arbutus, are genus names for several species of understory tree common to PNW coastal forests.
Behind the scenes[]
In the game files, some ID strings for content related to The Lake House use the identifier word "mushroom." This follows from Night Springs, each episode of which also uses a vegetable as an identifier.
