Local Flavor is the fourth episode of the Alan Wake prequel live action series, Bright Falls. This episode was released on the Bright Falls Website on May 11, 2010.
Summary[]
Jake witnesses a rabid local woman attempt to break a streetlight then attack Deputy Mulligan. Enduring another blackout, Jake discovers evidence that he was somehow involved in Sam's abduction.[1]
Plot[]
Jake at the general store.
At the local general store, Jake Fischer is trying to buy more of his medication. However, the storekeeper tells him he will have to send someone out for them, which could take up to six days at most. Jake inquires if something can be done to get them overnight, to which the storekeeper tells him that he can request a special shipment and have them brought by Tuesday, provided that the weather conditions are favorable. Disappointed, Jake quietly pays for a roll of duct tape.
The Deerfest commercial.
Jake drives to the Oh Deer Diner, with the damage on the left front side of his car now partly covered with duct tape. As he exits the vehicle, he notices a woman - Shel Dyck - throwing rocks at a lamppost. A police deputy - Mulligan - arrives and tries to reason with her, but Shel immediately starts throwing rocks at him as well. Jake watches as the deputy tries to restrain her, resulting in him getting bitten on the hand. Inside the diner, the television broadcasts a news report about Alan Wake causing $30,000 worth of equipment damage. Jake enters the diner and tells Rose about what he just saw outside. The two look out the window but see no one in the parking lot. Confused, Jake sits down and Rose comments that he does not look so well. Suddenly, the police car pulls up outside the diner and Mulligan rushes out of the vehicle. Through the window, Jake sees the feral Shel in the back of the car. Mulligan enters the diner and is assisted by Rose, who gives him a towel to stop the bleeding from his bite wound. Jake then sees on the television a commercial for the upcoming Deerfest. He becomes transfixed by the commercial and experiences another series of visions.
Jake wakes up.
When the visions end, Jake finds himself inside a body bag at night on the shore of a lake. As he emerges from the bag, he sees the light of an approaching boat, which shines on his face, causing him intense pain. Jake flees the scene and hides among the trees.

Notes[]
- On Phillip Van's website, this episode is titled "Overnight."
- The episode summary also states that Jake "discovers evidence that he was somehow involved in Sam's abduction." However, no such thing happens during the episode aside from him briefly having a vision of the latter being dragged away as seen in the previous episode.
- Jake's visions (some of them foreshadow future events):
- A kid, whose face is not shown, walking backwards in the woods. Judging by his clothes, he is most likely Daniel Smith.
- Jake's car skidding along the road. This would be seen in episode six.
- Sam Smith being dragged away. This was seen in the previous episode.
- A close-up of Sam Smith's right hand lying motionless in the ground.
- The light of an approaching vehicle on the road, interspersed with a deer walking on the road. The deer was seen in episode one. With this in mind, it is likely that the vehicle in question is Jake's car, seen from the deer's perspective.
- The ceiling fan in Jake's room. This was seen in episode two.
- The woods.
- The surface of Cauldron Lake before the diver emerges. This was seen in episode one. However, taking into account the fact that moment takes place shortly before Jake wakes up, it is possible that this is not a vision but rather a glimpse of reality.
- The lights of a police car illuminating the road. This would be seen in episode six.
Behind the Scenes[]
Mott in the general store as seen in the trailer.
- There is a deleted scene of Ben Mott in the store staring at the Jake. This is scene is only seen in one of the Bright Falls series trailer.
